California’s Success Story

Electricity Efficiency: In the mid 1970s, California’s per-capita electricity use (as expressed in terms of annual kWh consumed) closely resembled the overall U.S. average. By 2003, California’s per-capita annual electricity use had dropped to 56% of the U.S. average, and 50th among the states due to energy efficiency programs and appliance/equipment and building codes and standards.


Energy-Efficient Mortgages: California Housing Finance Agency (CHFA)

CHFA has rolled out its newly implemented FHA Energy Efficient Mortgage and announced its addition to the first time homebuyer loan program. In response to the Governor’s energy initiatives, this new effort from CHFA will help homebuyers save money on their utility bill as they reduce their borrowing costs for their home energy efficiency improvements (water heaters, insulation, double paned windows, etc.).
